After 48 hours in San Antonio, I think it's safe to say that I greatly underestimated the city. Aside from driving through San Antonio on the way to other Texas cities and a short day trip in college, it had been many, many years since I had really visited (and by many, I mean I was probably still in a stroller).
Last weekend, the opening of the Thompson Hotel brought us to San Antonio for 48 hours. While we could have spent a couple extra days getting to explore more of the city, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip and wanted to share our trip itinerary in case San Antonio is also on your travel bucket list!
We stayed at the Thompson Hotel. They just celebrated their opening, and it is absolutely stunning. It is also conveniently located right off of the Riverwalk and centrally located to all the main attractions in the city.
Grab a drink at the beautiful pool deck overlooking downtown. The pool is heated too, so don't forget your swimsuit!
If you haven't heard of Chispa Margaritas, Soluna is famous for their handmade chispas. They have a bright and vibrant ambiance, perfect for enjoying a chispa and their traditional Mexican cuisine. Order their Queso Flameado and Enchiladas.
Halcyon is a coffeeshop by day and a bar & lounge by night. For us, it was the perfect destination for our morning coffee. I got the Honey Garden Latte and Goat Cheese Arugula Toast, and both were perfect in every way.
The coffeeshop is located right in Southtown, which is a great area to walk around, soaking up all the culture and history.
Head back to the hotel, freshen up, and head downstairs to Landrace, located right within the hotel. (They also offer room service so you can order from Landrace's menu right up to your room.)
Did you really go to San Antonio if you didn't make a stop at the Alamo? The Thompson is just a 10 minute walk to the Alamo. Walk straight there and then spend some time exploring the Riverwalk.
The Pearl is a historic area that was revived into a beautiful, community driven community. It's filled with shops, restaurants, and apartments. Visit the different shops, grab some dinner and drinks, and relax in the green spaces. We got drinks at the Sternewirthe and dinner Mon Chou Chou!
Revolucion Coffee + Juice is originally from San Antonio, although there is a location in Houston! They are 100% vegetarian and offer delicious coffee, juice, and food! We went to the beautiful Alamo Heights location that has a small patio and an expansive and airy interior.
If you've been dreaming of your next vacation or weekend getaway, San Antonio may just be the unexpected destination you're looking for. It's only a three and a half hour road trip and holds noteworthy history, architecture, culture, and dining options.
If you end up going, drop a note in the comment section letting us know how you enjoyed your trip! Have any questions? Feel free to leave those below as well.
