Helen in the Heights: An Up-Casual Greek Bistro

Before dining at Helen in the Heights, I feel like I have only ever had fast-casual Greek food. Needless to say, I was very excited to try elevated Greek food and boy, did we FEAST!

Helen's older sister, also known as Helen Greek Food and Wine, is located in Rice Village and has become known as one of Houston's top restaurants since opening in 2015. While the Rice location focuses in on a modern approach to Greek cuisine and serves up wine and beer, Helen in the Heights serves up iconic Greek dishes and features an exclusively Greek wine list along with a selection of cocktails using Greek spirits and American liquors.

We tried dishes on and off the happy hour menu, but I think Helen in the Heights is the perfect spot for after-work drinks and shared plates with coworkers, friends, or even a date. Our favorites included the Lamb Hearts, Pan Roasted Cauliflower, and Spiced Meatballs. Don't skip over dessert either because they might just have the best alcohol-infused ice cream I've ever had!

Helen's is also excellent for all the avid wine enjoyers out there. The restaurant has an expansive list of wine offerings as well as different types of wine flights - reds, whites, sparkling, rose, or dessert!

HAPPY HOUR

Along with cocktail, wine, and beer specials, the happy hour menu has a nice variety of shared dishes at fair prices.

LAMB HEARTS || Pickled red onions & capers, aromatic greens, thyme oil

FETA BRINED CHICKEN WINGS || Pepperoncini, oregano, aleppo pepper, feta

SPICED MEATBALLS || Lamb & beef meatballs, tomato sauce, garlic confit, toasted cumin

APPETIZERS

CITRUS & FENNEL SALAD || Pomegranate, kalamata olives, red onion, mint, feta cheese

ROASTED BEETS || Garlic skordalia, yogurt, pistachios, dill

ENTREES

FETA BRINED CHICKEN || Baby courgettes, olive oil & herb roasted potatoes, pickled tomato vinaigrette

PAN ROASTED CAULIFLOWER || Roasted carrots, sesame-lemon dressing, garlic chips, thyme, pickled grapes

DESSERT

BOURBON BAKLAVA SOFT SERVE || House made soft serve infused with bourbon, flavored with traditional baklava spice, topped with pecans and drizzled in raw organic honey
