This Turkey Steamed Buns recipe is one of our favorites as of late. As per usual, it's incredibly easy and quick! I cannot take credit for this recipe though. My mom made steamed buns from scratch growing up, and she recently figured out a faster way to get delicious homemade steamed buns in under 45 minutes!
Yes, I was skeptical too, but believe me, this recipe is legit!
The great thing about these steamed buns is that you can literally have them at any time of the day! I normally like to have one for breakfast because you can just reheat it in the microwave for 30 seconds, and you're ready to go!
First things first, boil your eggs. I typically start with my eggs in a pot of cold sink water, turn the stove onto medium-high heat, and let them cook for 18 minutes. You can also put the eggs in once the water boils and cook for 12 minutes. Pro-tip: use the same pot you're going to use to steam the buns.

While you're waiting for your eggs to finish boiling, chop up your onion and Chinese sausages. I use the KamYenJai brand, as pictured above. You can get it at just about any East Asian grocery story, but I have seen it at a Kroger before! I typically go to the Hong Kong Market on Bellaire. It's stored in the refrigerated items section.
Combine all your ingredients except the biscuit dough and boiled eggs and stir until evenly mixed.
When your eggs are done, peel and cut in half.
Alas, we are ready to build our buns! Take your biscuit dough and flatten with your hands until it's about 6 inches in diameter. Make sure you leave the dough in the fridge until this step or it will lose some of its elasticity and will be harder to flatten out!
Scoop a decent amount of the turkey mixture (you'll want to evenly divide it into 8) into the center of the dough with one of the egg halves. Bring all the edges to the center and pinch closed!
Put the bun on one of your pieces of paper and place in the stove top steamer. Repeat for the rest of the buns then cook for 17 minutes. Remove and enjoy! (PS - Be mindful of the pieces of paper. They should just peel off. I know this part seemed weird, but it will help keep them from sticking to pot.)
Yield: 8 buns
Ingredients:
1/2 lb ground turkey
1/2 white onion
2 sticks Chinese sausage
1/2 cup lima beans or edamame
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp black ground pepper
4 eggs
1 can Pillsbury Grand Buttermilk biscuits
9 2 1/2 inch pieces of paper
Instructions:
1. Boil the eggs on medium-high heat for 12 minutes. (18 minutes if you start with a pot of cold water.)
2. Chop up the white onion and Chinese sausage.
3. Mix the turkey, onion, sausage, lima beans, oyster sauce, and black ground pepper.
4. Remove the eggs from the boiling water, but keep the water on the heat if you're using the same pot you're using to steam the buns.
5. Take your biscuit dough and flatten it out until it's about 6 inches in diameter.
6. Scoop about 1/8 of the turkey mixture and place in the center of the dough along with one of the egg halves.
7. Bring all the edges together and pinch to close up the bun.
8. Place the bun on one of the squares of paper and place it in the top part of your steamer.
9. Repeat steps 5-8 to use up the rest of the dough and turkey mixture.
10. Place the top part of the steamer over the bottom part (that should be boiling), and cook for 17 minutes.
11. Remove from the steamer, peel back the paper, and enjoy!
